Bold Moves

“Emerald is glamorous and festive, especially for winter weddings,” says Andi Saxton of Sego Event Planning and Floral Design, who paired  the green hue with warm gold tones to create this Art Deco-inspired tablescape. Saxton arranged a centerpiece of garden roses, anemones, ranunculus, hydrangea, gilded succulents, tulips, blueberry viburnum, and Queen Anne’s lace atop a bold black-and-white striped linen and hung a gold-painted branch chandelier overhead. Gold place settings set the stage for a refined dinner, while big silk bows fancify the backs of Chiavari chairs. Inspired by her love of interior design, Saxton used assorted vases and home accents to prop place cards and add texture and interest to the table. “Mixing something traditional with something modern creates good juxtaposition—just like in home decor.” A chevron pattern on custom paper goods and a sunburst motif on individual fondant cakes add Art Deco flair. In Tandem

Carrie Parker and Lori Hulbert—sisters and co-owners of White Ginger Events—drew inspiration for this lush table from Salt Lake’s verdant spring landscape and one of the state’s most popular warm-weather activities: cycling. Their design began with basic bike rims, which the duo welded together and spray painted gold to create an unexpected centerpiece for Oriental lilies, football mums, tulips, roses, and home-grown wheat grass. “We like to take ordinary objects and make them elegant,” explains Hulbert. “It creates a good balance of masculine and feminine.” Larger rims, also sprayed gold and decorated with faux emerald stones, act as the base of a bench built for two. The sisters dressed the table with layered linens, a ruffled runner, and jeweled ribbons. Whimsical paper goods, mini vanilla cupcake favors, and a lemon poppyseed and vanilla fondant cake with gum paste flowers and modeling chocolate “stems” set a playful tone for this fresh fête.
